For these 3 steps you'll need a BBQ skewer or some rigid wire... anything to follow where I insert where I place my skewer.

After lifting from pattern... hold the stick from underneath gently gripping dangling ends with fingers and begin to tighten around stick

Still with me...?
abokpattern615o.jpg
with a 'spine' of some kind the knot naturally takes shape... still finger tight.

This is as close as I can get with my fingers for tightening before I remove the skewer.

Finishing phase
abokpattern615q.jpg
Once stick is out watch this part... dont let it slip into the knot.

Prick it up a bit for the final tighten

abokpattern615s.jpg
To get down here I use needle nose pliers.... just firm, not too tight.

I tried to use more pics than text, but let me know if there's any Q's I can help with.

Ok, I'll try to get Q's answered tomorrow (I just know I confused the process somehow) but the most important part is the inserting of a rigid tool of some kind while tightening. Makes a huge difference and helps keep the knot from folding on itself during the tightening phase. After removing the skewer you could always slip a toothpick or something similar in size and snip the ends on either side of the toggle and leave the rest buried in there as a kind of spine for the knot. Pinch the ends a bit to conceal the 'rod' if thats the way you go.
Now it's bathtime for the boys.... good luck.
